The |orbicularis oculi| muscle is also known as the orbicularis palpebrarum muscle. It is a sphincter muscle, or ring-shaped muscle that covers the eyelid and surrounds the |orbit| of each |eye|. The muscle is composed of two parts. The palpebrarum portion covers the eyelid. The other portion of the muscle surrounds the |orbit|. The two portions work together to narrow the |eye|, thus causing the |eye| to close or blink.
